Modified Harbor View Rd. design to be unveiled at public meeting

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC)- A public meeting to unveil updated design plans for Harbor View Road on James Island will take place on Tuesday.

Charleston County Government will hold the public meeting from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Stiles Point Elementary School. The meeting will begin with a brief presentation at 7:30 p.m. on the Harbor View Road Improvements Project, followed by a question and answer session.

Officials will also be on hand to take comments and suggestions from the public.

Known as the Proposed Alternative, Charleston County Council approved the updated design in January 2013 after plan modifications were requested by the South Carolina Department of Transportation.

The proposed alternative features the following design modifications:

Sunshine and warm temps to make a brief appearance Tuesday

Sunshine and warm temps to make a brief appearance Tuesday

Live 5 Meteorologist Chad Watson says it will be a partly sunny afternoon, with showers returning later this evening:

Morning fog is starting to burn off but there could still be a few patchy spots inland until mid-day or so. Tuesday afternoon looks partly sunny and warm with highs in the mid to upper 70s. A few inland areas will hit the 80° mark, which is the normal high for the day. Rain and thunder may try and pop up along the sea-breeze toward the late afternoon and early evening. If storms can develop they should be few and far between but still could drop very heavy rain so plan the afternoon drive home after a look at the radar.

A wet week ahead

A wet week ahead

A cloudy and showery Monday is ahead so make sure you keep the rain jacket or umbrella handy all day. Temps are mild as we head into mid-morning with temps near 70° already. By lunch showers and storms could pop back up at any time and that 80% rain chance lingers all the way into the afternoon drive home. Highs today are expected to reach the mid to upper 70s on a muggy but mild southwest breeze.

James Island boy leading charge to fight childhood hunger

Jackson Silverman

JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC)- A little James Island boy is making a big difference in the fight against hunger in the Lowcountry.

Jackson Silverman, aged 7, enjoys playing outdoors, hanging out with his friends, and wrestling with his brothers, but there is one issue particularly close to his heart, "We need to help hungry kids out there who don't have any food and we just need to help them so they can make their lives change."

Silverman and his younger brothers are the founders of the "I Heart Hungry Kids Foundation," a community service project that addresses issues associated with childhood hunger.

For his hard work, he's been awarded a grant he plans to put to good use, "We got a very big grant from Sodexo which was $500 which gave us all the money to help with the hungry kids."

Now he's leading a group of volunteers in packing bags full of healthy food to feed over 100 hungry children. Silverman said their goal is to pack more than 150 bags.
