JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC)- James Island voters once again approved to form a new town Tuesday night.
Former Mayor Bill Woolsey said it's a win for the people of James Island.
"We're excited. We'll send the results off to the Secretary of State. They will review it and create the town charter," said Woolsey.
Officials reported that 1461 votes approved the new town's formation with 267 votes against. Even though only 20 percent of voters showed up at the polls, The Election Commission said it doesn't matter.
Three previous attempts at incorporation over the past two decades were tossed out by the courts after legal challenges from the City of Charleston.
There will be another vote on July 31 to elect a mayor and members of town council.
