Officials: two more feral dogs trapped on James Island | News
JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC)- Charleston County Sheriff's Animal Control trapped two dogs Saturday morning believed to be part of a roaming, feral pack responsible for multiple cat deaths which are worrying James Island residents.
Major Jim Brady said two dogs were captured around 9 a.m. Saturday morning in a trap set off of Honeyhill Road in James Island. The two dogs appear to be shepherd mix, and larger than the three previously captured dogs.
The dogs will be transported to the ASPCA where a determination will be made on the dog's status.
Officers first captured what they said was a feral dog on Aug. 8. That dog was euthanized after unsuccessful attempts at rehabilitation, authorities said.
Brady also said deputies responded to 1372 Fields Circle and 1305 Honeysuckle Lane Friday after receiving reports of cats being killed by dogs.
Charleston County deputies and Animal Control officers have stepped up patrols in the area and are working with Charleston City Police Animal Control to address the issue of the feral dogs as both jurisdictions have had cases involving the pack of dogs and cat deaths attributed to the dogs.
A third dog that was captured Friday appears to be approximately five
to six months old and matches the description of dogs who have been
reported in the pack, Brady said.
Officials say the dog was
captured from a trap set off of Ben Road, which is the same area where
the second dog was trapped on Thursday.
Residents spotting roaming dogs or having any contact or incidents with any dogs are urged to contact the Charleston County Sheriff's Office at 843-202-1700 immediately and are advised to not to try and corral or capture the dogs themselves.
Residents are also reminded to keep all trash cans covered to reduce scavenging by the dogs and to not leave food for cats or dogs on porches or in yards.
